Community Workshop Description:
Trans identified youth rarely receive relationship or sexual health education aimed at them, and face disproportionately high levels of dating violence. Teens cannot hope to establish sexually healthy relationships unless they know what those are, how they operate, and how they are maintained. Building sexual health in adolescents begins with a conversation. In this workshop, participants will engage in hands-on activities that provide a way of communicating about relationships. Each “game” will allow participants to think more concretely and define more clearly their expectations for beginning, participating and maintaining healthy, safe relationships.
I later published how to run this workshop in a chapter titled Transgender Youth and Healthy Relational Skills in the book Homework Assignments and Handouts for LGBTQ+ Clients: A Mental Health and Counseling Handbook (2020) edited by Drs. Joy Whitman & Cyndy Boyd.
