Changes in Suicidality Following Hormone Treatment for Trans Youth

New Article on Gender Care for Transgender Adolescents

Author Manuscript Version: Here.

I am pleased to share that my latest study, Changes in Suicidality Among Transgender Adolescents Following Hormone Therapy: An Extended Study,” published The Journal of Pediatrics.

This study builds on my earlier dissertation work by expanding the sample from 47 to 432 patients, offering one of the largest clinical analyses to date examining changes in suicidality among transgender adolescents after initiating hormone therapy. The findings are in line with the findings of my dissertation, showing significant reduction in suicidal ideation and behavior following treatment (as measured by the Ask Suicide-Screening Questions), with improvements consistent across sex assigned at birth.

This extended study contributes to a growing body of evidence that gender-affirming hormone therapy can play an important role in improving mental health and well-being among transgender youth.
