About Me

Luke R. Allen, PhD

Licensed Psychologist

Evidence-based therapy.

My approach to therapy is primarily based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. As an ACT therapist, instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings, I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender and sexuality.

I primarily provide online therapy with late teens and adults. In addition to depression and anxiety, I specialize in working with transgender and non-binary (TNB) adults, youth, and their families on matters related to gender identity. Transgender clients and family members seeking assessment or counseling services can expect a safe space, and respectful, non-pathologizing, collaborative care. I am a Certified World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Global Education Initiative Standards of Care 8 Member and Mentor. I have extensive training, research, and clinical experience working with transgender and gender-diverse youth, adults, and families.

Connecting: If you feel like we may be a good fit, please reach out by phone at (702) 530-6134 or through the contact form. I will follow up with you for a brief (5-15 minute) phone call, where I can learn a little bit more about you and answer any questions you might have. You may also request a 15-minute video consultation directly in my schedule to help us determine if we are a good fit. I am licensed in Nevada, Oregon, and California, and I also practice remotely in 38+ additional "PsyPACT" states. If you’d like to learn more about my training background and experience, I have linked to my C.V. on the About Me page.

Out-Of-Network [OON]/Private Pay: Many insurance plans offer OON benefits for partial reimbursement. You would first check to confirm you have OON benefits. I use Thrizer to simplify reimbursement, allowing you to pay just your co-pay upfront. If you prefer not to use Thrizer, then, by default, I provide monthly “superbills” for you to seek reimbursement directly (provided you have eligible benefits). Private pay offers immediate access to initial appointments, allowing you to begin treatment sooner. You can check your OON benefits and learn more about billing and other logistics on the FAQs and Fees pages.

Aetna/In-Network: For those in NV, OR, or CA, I can accept most Aetna plans (check Aetna coverage and read more here) through Alma, but I have a limited capacity for in-network clients. There is a waitlist (4 to 6+ weeks) if you wish to use in-network Aetna benefits. Unfortunately, I do not work with any other insurance plans as an in-network provider.
